AI Governance
AI security consulting that closes the gaps AI opens in your existing controls
AI assistants and agents create new paths to your data and systems. Kriv AI works alongside your security team to find those paths and put controls on them, written to the policy your organisation already answers to.
AI security consulting identifies the new risks AI assistants and agents introduce, such as data surfacing to the wrong people, over-broad permissions, manipulated inputs and unapproved tools, and puts controls on them. Kriv AI does this alongside your existing security team, focused on AI-specific controls rather than replacing penetration testing or security operations.
what it is
What AI security consulting covers
Your security team already protects networks, identities and data. AI adds new routes through those defences: an assistant that can read every file a user can technically reach, an agent with permissions to act in systems, documents that carry hidden instructions, and staff connecting AI tools to work data without anyone knowing. AI security consulting finds those routes and closes them.
Kriv AI is not a penetration-testing firm and does not run a security operations service. We work alongside your security team on the AI-specific part: what each AI system can reach, what it can do, what it is exposed to and how its use is recorded.
risks
The AI security risks we work on
| Risk | What it looks like | Control |
|---|---|---|
| Data exposure | An assistant surfaces files a user could technically open but was never meant to see. | Fix over-broad permissions before connecting AI; classify sensitive content. |
| Over-broad agent permissions | An agent can change records or send messages far beyond its task. | Its own identity, least-privilege access and approval points. |
| Prompt injection | A document, email or web page contains instructions that redirect the AI. | Limit what agents can do with untrusted content; require approval for consequential actions. |
| Shadow AI | Staff use unapproved AI tools with work data. | An approved, easy alternative; discovery of unapproved use; clear rules. |
| Missing records | Nobody can show what an AI system was asked, what it read or what it did. | Logging of inputs, actions and approvals where reviewers can find it. |
security and governance
AI security and governance work best together
Security controls answer how an AI system is protected. Governance answers who decided it should exist, what it may do and who answers for it. AI security governance joins them: every AI system has an owner, a risk tier and security controls matched to that tier, and the records show both.
That is why our security work sits inside a wider governance approach. Our pages on agentic AI governance and AI data governance cover the controls for agents and for data, and our AI governance consulting page covers the program around them.
signs
Signs your AI needs security attention
An assistant has been switched on for everyone, but nobody reviewed what files and mailboxes it can read. A team has built an agent that acts under a staff member's own account. AI tools appear in expense claims or browser logs that nobody approved. A vendor's AI feature was enabled by default in a platform you already use. Nobody can say what an AI system read or did on a given day.
Each of these is a specific, fixable gap. None needs a new security programme; they need the AI systems listed, their access tightened, their actions limited and their use recorded. That is the scope of an AI security engagement, and it fits alongside the security work your team already does.
approach
How an AI security consultant from Kriv AI works
1. Inventory
List every AI system in use, including assistants, agents and tools staff adopted on their own, with what each can reach.
2. Exposure review
Check permissions, data classification and connections for each system, starting with the ones that touch sensitive data.
3. Controls
Agree and configure identity, access, approval points and logging for each system, with your security team.
4. Records
Set up the logs and evidence your security and risk reviewers need, and hand them over.
microsoft
AI security in Microsoft 365 and Azure
For Microsoft organisations, much of the AI security work is configuration in tools you already own: permissions in SharePoint and Teams, data loss prevention and sensitivity labels, and audit logging for assistant use. Kriv AI is a Microsoft Solutions Partner for Cloud & AI Platforms · Partner ID 7036589; our page on AI governance on Azure and Microsoft 365 covers that configuration.
Outside Microsoft, the same pattern applies to other productivity and cloud platforms: check what each AI feature can reach, tighten access where it is broader than the role needs, and turn on the logging the platform offers before the feature is used widely.
regulated
AI security for regulated organisations
Our focus includes healthcare, life sciences, financial services and insurance, where an AI system exposing the wrong record is both a security event and a compliance one. We write the AI controls to the policy and frameworks your organisation already answers to, such as the NIST AI RMF or ISO/IEC 42001, and your security, privacy and compliance functions keep the final judgement.
Before buying any AI tool, we recommend testing the vendor's answers to a set of security questions; our AI vendor evaluation checklist provides them.
how an engagement runs
How an AI security engagement runs
1. Discovery call
We learn which AI systems you run or plan, what they touch and how your security team works. Work is scoped and priced after this short discovery call.
2. Inventory and exposure review
We map every AI system and rank the exposures, starting with sensitive data.
3. Controls with your team
We agree and configure the controls with your security and IT owners.
4. Handover
We hand over the inventory, the controls, the records and a short guide for reviewing new AI systems.

Frequently asked questions about AI security consulting that closes the gaps AI opens in your existing controls
What does an AI security consultant do?
They find the new risks AI systems introduce and put controls on them: what each assistant or agent can reach, what it can do, what untrusted content it is exposed to, which tools staff use without approval and what gets recorded. At Kriv AI we do this alongside your security team, focused on AI-specific controls.
Do you do penetration testing?
No. Kriv AI is not a penetration-testing firm and does not run a security operations service. We focus on AI-specific controls such as permissions, data exposure, agent actions and logging, and we work with your security team or testing provider, who keep responsibility for those services.
What is prompt injection, and how do we defend against it?
Prompt injection is when content an AI system reads, such as a document, email or web page, contains instructions that redirect it. The practical defences are limiting what an AI system can do with untrusted content, keeping a person approving consequential actions and logging what the system read and did, so a manipulated action is caught and traceable.
Where should AI security work start?
With an inventory and permissions. List every AI system in use, including tools staff adopted on their own, and check what each can reach. Fixing over-broad access to files, sites and mailboxes before AI can read them closes the widest route AI opens to your data.
How do AI security and AI governance fit together?
Governance decides which AI systems exist, what they may do and who answers for them; security protects them and the data they touch. AI security governance joins the two, so every system has an owner, a risk tier and controls matched to it, with records that show both.
Are AI features in tools we already use a security risk?
They can be, because they are sometimes switched on by default and inherit every permission the user has. Review which AI features are enabled in your productivity, CRM and collaboration platforms, what data they can reach and whether their use is logged, and treat each one as an AI system in your inventory.
Do you work with our existing security tools?
Yes. Much of the work is configuring tools you already own, such as permissions, data loss prevention, sensitivity labels and audit logging in your productivity and cloud platforms. We recommend new tools only where the existing ones cannot cover a specific AI risk.
How much does AI security consulting cost?
Our work is scoped and priced after a short discovery call, once we know how many AI systems you run, what they touch and how your security team works.
